I always enjoy learning about the girl a collection is designed for. In the process of the making, a designer has a specific persona in mind who would wear their line, and Karen Walker shows off her imagined client in the campaign. A release of Karen Walker Forever, a collection of timeless sunglasses designs, for 1st Summer 2013 Campaign, there are four girls – Linda Rodin, Lynn Dell, Ilona Royce Smithkin and Joyce Carpati – ages between 65 and 92. They’re photographed in their homes and interviewed to allow a plunge into their life and perspective.

You can get closer acquainted with them here by reading their interviews.
In the 2nd Summer 2013 Campaign, Karen Walker continues to explore the girl she is designing for and goes to the opposite end of the age group. The models are ages 3-5, and exude excitement and optimism that the designer is seeking in its client. The both collections serve as bookends and imply that there’s an in-between as well.

“The campaign is about optimism and playfulness,” Walker says. “The idea was always for [the collections] to be presented as bookends. The first campaign, that Ari [Seth Cohen] shot in New York, was based on eternal optimism — the bookend to that brings in the kids’ open-eyed, playful point of view.”
